I must say I was (and still am) really, REALLY surprised when I first saw this, PMDG offering a "simulation" of a certain A/C type, but only as a bare external model extension for an existing, different aircraft simulation. So the mighty PMDG 747-8 is nothing but an external model (a super high quality one) that is using the flight dynamics, panel and all that stuff from their 747-400 which is a different variant of the 747. I'm not trying to discredit PMDG at all, I love their work (how could one not love it), but I've never thought PMDG will allow themselves to get this low. PMDG has always been about complete realism and accuracy and now...a 748 that flies like a 744, never thought I'd live to see this from PMDG, huh.
